Beaverton, Banks and Beyond Bicycle Tour 2013
Hosted by NW Bicycle Safety Council and Papa’s Pizza Parlor
Explore the rural splendor of Western Oregon
This is a beautiful bicycle fundraising tour being held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, from Papa’s Pizza Parlor located at 15700 Blueridge Drive in Beaverton, Oregon (near Terpenning Recreation Complex) to Stub Stewart State Park in Buxton, with an option to explore Vernonia and return.
This scenic, moderately challenging 100-mile, 86-mile, and 64-mile bike tour explores beautiful farmlands as you wind through the country roads of North Plains and work your way toward the paved Banks-Vernonia State Trail in Banks, which is rider-friendly to both road and mountain bikes. A 32-mile option is included.
As you leave the town of Roy and continue west, enjoy the captivating beauty of the countryside as the sun cuts through the clouds, with bikers decked out in bright jerseys and helmets after being fortified with their morning snacks and refreshments. While cruising the rural roads of Washington County, enjoy the serenity of the countryside, glimpses of wildlife, and the company of others.
After leaving the road, you’ll enter bike-friendly paved trails of Stub Stewart State Park. Enjoy the tree-lined canopies and ever-changing scenery peering through the vast landscapes of trees, ferns, and seasonal foliage. Discover the hidden treasure waiting for you as you work your way toward the vista for the mid-point rest area. Take in the view from the Hill Top Day-Use Area, with its views of the Coastal Range, is the turnaround point for the metric century. Rest and enjoy our well-planned snacks and refreshments. More snacks and refreshments await you in Anderson Park should you choose the 86 or 100 mile tour to Vernonia and back.
On your return to Papa’s Pizza Parlor parking lot, you will be rewarded with some sweeping smooth descents through forested corridors as you pass through Banks, Oregon toward the City of Beaverton. Riders returning to Papa’s Pizza Parlor, a long-time supporter of community events throughout Oregon, can delight in having a slice of pepperoni or plain pizza with a salad, cookie, and choice of bottled water or soda—or a freshly made turkey, roast beef, or vegetarian sandwich with chips, cookie, and a choice of bottled water or soda. Lunch will be served between 11:00 am and 3:30pm. Plan your ride accordingly.
